We have been getting a countless amount of calls to our San Diego office regarding the “Zeus Virus” and multiple other popups saying to call a certain 1-800 number. A large portion of these popups will “lock” you out of your computer so that you can’t do anything else until you call the number. Tread lightly from here. If you get one of these, call our shop @ 858-345-0382 and we can walk you through getting rid of this popup.
Anyone can stumble upon these websites. They are typically just harmless looking advertisements on common pages like Google, Yahoo, and Facebook. These fake Tech Support pages are malicious websites which are used by cyber criminals to promote their remote support services. These “Techs” are looking for money(a lot of it) and will tell you that they can remove the infection remotely for a nominal fee. DON’T BUY IT, it’s a scam. If you end up on the phone with one of these people, your best bet is to shut down your computer and give us a call. We have seen many of these fake techs get frustrated when customers don’t want to pay the fee, so they locked them out of their own computer or start deleting their files. These people are really just trying to convince you that your computer has been infected and that all your accounts and data is compromised. When in reality, as long as you don’t call them and let them into your computer, it is not true.
If this happens to you, give us a call and we make sure your computer is back to a secure and healthy state!
